MOE Open Day

With the establishment of the four higher education institutions in the country, opportunities to pursue studies are no longer limited to the sending of students abroad, said Permanent Secretary Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education (MoE), Awg Hj Mohd Daud Hj Mahmud.

The government of His Majesty, he added, have invested much in upgrading the infrastructure of higher education through the National Development Plan 2007-2012 where UBD has been allocated with a budget of more than 65 million dollars for extension projects to Science Faculty, Institute of Medicine, Institute of Education, Students Affairs, library, sports complex and lecture theatres.

ITB on the other hand has been allocated with a budget of 30 million dollars for phase three of its infrastructure construction. MoE are also in the planning of constructing a permanent campus for UNISSA and it is hoped that with the extension of these buildings and infrastructure, it will meet the objectives of MoE to increase the numbers of admission rate from 13 per cent to 30 per cent in the near future and at the same time it will also upgrade the quality of facilities for students studying at respective universities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two-day Scholarship Section, MoE Open Day yesterday at ICC, he further said opportunities to pursue studies abroad through His Majesty’s government must fully be utilised by selected students by heading towards well-known universities around the globe and taking programmes that have high demand in the country.

"This is vital to ensure that students gained knowledge, teaching and experience that is of high quality from these universities, which is in line with Brunei Vision 2035," he said.

Local universitiy students will also have the opportunity to enrol in programmes abroad through Discovery Year, Twinning Programmes, Year Abroad Programme and Partnership Programme which is being conducted by UBD, UNISSA and ITB with renowned universities abroad.

The Permanent Secretary also expressed hope that the Open Day will be able to provide accurate information needed by students and the general public about the scholarship scheme of His Majesty’s government.

Yesterday’s opening ceremony began with the recital of surah al-fatihah followed by a welcoming note by Assistant Director (Scholarship) MoE, Awg Hj Aziz Hj Nayan.

Amongst all, he noted that the Open Day serves to guide students on identifying their career relevant to their respective courses through the relevant agencies participating in the exhibition, to provide them with advices on education institutions abroad recognised by the government, as well as financial assistance from banks for the Education Loan Scheme.

The exhibition sees a total of 28 participants comprising sections, departments, higher education institutions under MoE and Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as other government agencies such as Defence and Health Ministries, Public Services Department and non-government agencies including banks, private education institutions, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, Brunei Shell Petroleum Sdn Bhd, RBA and Education Services Sdn Bhd.

It have has been a while for me trying to make a shot with a fisheye lens. Thanks to Mr. Karyawan for trusting me to used his camera and lens for a day. I just love the super distortion effect from the lens. Well, I have to wait for a full frame body *cough cough* so that I can get the 15mm f2.8 prime lens to get the fish effect.
