The Royal Brunei Police Force’s tug of war team earned the right to represent the Brunei-Muara District in the heavyweight category of a combined weight of 1,100kg in the National Tug of War Championship after defeating G16 in the finals of the Brunei-Muara District traditional Tug of War competition on Sunday night at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital.

The police’s team took convincing wins in two bouts with a total score of 3.5 points against G16.

In the third place playoff, Anak Brunei tug of war team came from behind to beat Chain Block 9000 ‘B’.

Losing by 0.5 point in the first round, Anak Brunei scored one point in the second round to snatch the third spot.

In the Category A for 70kg and below, Chain Block 900 was crowned the champion with an easy win against Anak Brunei in two rounds, scoring a total of 1.5 points.

Meanwhile, the Kampung Subok tug of war team took third place after beating Perkasa with a score of 5.5 points in two rounds.

In Category C for juniors under the age of 18 with a combined weight of 600kg, G16′s junior team proved to be too strong as they beat Chain Block 90 with a total score of five points in two bouts.

In the third place playoff, Mukim Pengkalan Batu defeated Mukim Lumapas ‘B’ with three points to grab the spot. The winners of all the categories will represent Brunei-Muara District in the national level.

The guest of honour who presented the prizes was Awang Hj Mohd ‘Abdoh bin DSS Hj Abd Salam, the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Also present were Pengiran Haji Jadid bin Pg Hj Omarali, the chairman with Dr Chan Sui Kiat, the co-chairman of the organising committee.

The event was held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 63rd birthday celebration
