New Moon of Ramadan

Today I went to Bukit Agok to witness the sighting of the new moon for Ramadan. The new moon was not sighted, therefore fasting month will start on Saturday the 22nd August 2009.

The fasting month of Ramadan is  one of the five pillars of Islam. All Muslims are prohibited to eat and drink during the day time starting at the rise of the fajar to sunset. Every night a Tarawikh Sunnat Prayer is performed, and it is during this month that the holy Al-Quran was given to our Prophet Mohammad S.A.W. This day was called the Nuzul Al-Quran.

During the fasting month of Ramadan there is one night called ‘Malam Lailatul Qadar’  which is the most sought night for a Muslim. The night has always been described as the night that is better than a thousand night.

The famous hadith from Prophet Muhammad S.A.W from Bukhari said to seek on the last ten nights of Ramadan. Another hadith from Muslim said to those who are weak, they should not despair and give up but to seek it during the last seven days.
